Why Baker Farm?

We often get asked the question "Why Baker Farm?"  Legit question, since Baker is not our last name.  It was, however, my mother's last name growing up.  My grandparents, Paul and Myrtle Baker, raised their two daughters right around the corner from the farm we now call home, here in the community of Friendship.

Sadly they passed away before I met Farmer Allen, but boy would they have loved him.  They truly lived in the way we strive to.  A simple lifestyle, taking nothing for granted, providing from the land for their family, embracing their community.  Wasting nothing, welcoming all.    They were sustainable before it was a thing.

As we tried to decide on a name we tossed around many.  The name Baker embodies all we want to be and to do in this place.  And as a kicker…. there is a chapter in Walden titled "Baker Farm".  Our farm name is also a Thoreau reference?  Sold.
